Changan UNI-T

Changan has made commendable efforts in designing the cabin layout of the Uni-T, which features a nicely executed all-black cabin with leather upholstery, contrast silver highlights around AC vents and door panels and sporty contrast red stitching on the seats, centre console and door panels. The cabin quality feels top-notch, with the segment-best equipment list further increasing its desirability.

The dashboard layout of the Changan Uni-T has a trapezoidal curved full-TFT cockpit behind the flat-bottom multi-functional steering wheel. The curved cockpit here houses 10-inch screens for the instrument console and touchscreen infotainment system, the latter of which also supports wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and functionalities of the 6-speaker audio system.

The lower centre console has a protruding layout, with AC vents facing towards the transmission tunnel, which accommodates the chunky transmission lever, electronic parking brake switch and drive controller knob. The cabin of the Changan Uni-T also gets a few other features like ambient lighting, a wireless charger, automatic climate control with air filter and a panoramic sunroof.

Dynamic is the word to best describe the styling of the Changan Uni-T compact crossover. This highly-stylish crossover from Changan has a curvaceous design language all around, which doesn’t make it look like a conventional SUV, but more like a raised hatchback. Nevertheless, the Changan Uni-T has a tremendous road presence, with its unique design elements increasing its appeal even more.

The Changan Uni-T looks snazzy from the front, and much of the credit for it goes to its boomerang-shaped headlamp clusters which come with daytime running LEDs at the top and LED projectors at the bottom, both of which are joined by zig-zag-shaped chrome element. The grille here looks large and gets an angular body-coloured chequered and borderless theme, which further makes its front profile look even bolder.

The curvaceousness of the design of the Changan Uni-T is at its best when the crossover is viewed from the side, with the Uni-T having curves flowing over the bonnet, door panels and roofline. With blacked-out cladding over its rounded wheel arches, the Changan Uni-T rides on tyres wrapped over 19-inch machined alloy wheels. These cutting-edge wheels, along with flap-type front door handles and rear door handles integrated into the C-pillar, add more layers of panache to its design.

The Changan Uni-T continues its strikingness to the rear profile too, where the SUV maintains its eye-catching appeal with a sharply-raked rear windscreen and a unique V-shaped roof spoiler above it. The stretched arrowhead-shaped LED combination tail lamps and quad exhaust pipe arrangement on the rear bumper further draw more attention to the rear look of the Uni-T.

The Changan Uni-T comes with a front-wheel drive configuration as standard while measuring 4515 mm long, 1870 mm wide and 1565 mm tall. The premium compact SUV feels light and nimble to drive with its lighter steering setup, which though lacks feedback at higher speeds and can do with better control. The suspension setup also feels supple, which translates into a well-sorted ride quality at urban speeds.  

In the Changan Uni-T, the powertrain on offer as standard is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which is coupled to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Here in the Changan Uni-T, this engine produces a maximum power output of 177 PS and a peak torque output of 300 Nm.

The safety equipment list offered in the Changan Uni-T as standard includes six airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, 360-degree parking camera with drive recorder, rear cross-traffic alert, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, forward and rear collision warnings and automatic parking assist.

High on style and visual appeal, the Changan Uni-T is one of the most dramatic-looking SUVs, especially on the outside, with the premium compact SUV being easy to live with, courtesy of its light steering and supple suspension.
