Honda’s entry-level subcompact hatchback is now all grown up. The newest model has an all-new front fascia that takes its cue from Honda’s current design language. This has given it an upright front end, LED parking guide lights, and a thick chrome lip on all except the RS Sport variant which gets a gloss black one instead. The RS sport also gets to sport a tailgate spoiler and 15” wheels and a black roof top on the RS Sport black top variant. In its second generation, Honda has decided to make it bigger giving it a bigger interior. Apart from the spartan base model, the other three variants are all equipped with a 7" touchscreen infotainment screen. The engine remains the same across the range. It is a 1.2 L 4-cylinder SOHC i-VTEC engine making 90 PS and 112 Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual is available on the base model while the rest are equipped with a CVT. Prices start from Php 598000 for the base model and go up to Php 735000 for the 1.2 RS Black Top CVT.

Honda Brio Overview
The smallest and most affordable car from Honda’s lineup not only in the Philippines but also globally, the Honda Brio is now in its second generation avatar, which has seen the hatchback grown in size and a couple of other virtues. The Honda Brio is available in a total of three variants – S MT, V CVT and RS CVT, all of which come with a standard petrol engine.

Honda Brio Interior
Compared to the cabin of the previous generation model, the new Honda Brio has got a wider and more accommodating cabin, which makes it look a bigger place to be in. The complete dashboard has been shared with that of the Mobilio, which does make it look bigger than before, but still not so inspiring in terms of visual appeal. The three spoke steering with audio controls as well as the three pod analog instrument console has been retained from the previous model, which looks basic yet good. However, the rest of the dashboard has been heavily revised, which looks much inspired from that of tue previous generation Honda City. The centre console is slightly tilted towards the driver side, and features a tapered layout for the slim AC vents and a large flat panel which houses a rectangular touchscreen infotainment system. Below this panel is located a wide U-shaped panel of buttons for automatic climate control. For an entry level hatchback, the Honda Brio comes with only the aforementioned features as the prominent ones, which is decent, however more features would have been welcomed. And compared to the previous generation model, the new Brio has a larger cabin thanks to increase in length, which directly has increased the legroom at the back.

Honda Brio Exterior
In this second generation model, the Honda Brio has evolved into a bigger car, which has seen increase in dimensions and a lot of alterations to its original design. In the process, it has transformed itself from a chic city car to a more mature sub compact hatchback. The front fascia of the new Honda Brio now falls in line with other Honda cars, with the wide front face comprising of a wider front grille with pronounced chrome garnish and elongated sweptback head lamps which are slimmer and curvier from outer edges. The fog lamps and its surrounds, however, look much similar to those on the previous model. The side profile of the Honda Brio looks longer than before, thanks to increase in wheelbase and altercations to the design of the door panels. The windows are bigger than before, and have an even more sharply rising waistline. The rear look of the Honda Brio has been comprehensively transformed with the rear glass hatch of the previous generation model being replaced by a more conventional hatch, which here looks wider and more rounded than before, completed with a set of sweptback tail lamps placed on the side edges of the boot lid.

Honda Brio Engine & Fuel Consumption
Honda has relied on the tried and tested 1.2-litre four cylinder petrol engine from the previous generation model for the current model. Here in the new version too, the engine produces 90 PS of maximum power output and 110 Nm of maximum torque output. While the base model comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox, the rest of the variants have the engine mated to a CVT gearbox.

The Honda Brio might not be the best compact city hatchback, for the fact that it misses out on many of the latest of the features one now takes for granted. However, with all the mechanical aspects like engine performance, ride quality, handling and space levels in the right amount, the Honda Brio makes up for a great starter for the first time owners.
