Kia Sorento

Much like its exterior, the new Sorento’s interior is revamped with a more driver-centric layout, with clear and easy-to-access separation between the driver and passenger seating areas. The upholstery will vary depending on the trim, with the base model having your run-of-the-mill option, and the SX showcasing a combination of SynTex and leather.

A major highlight of the new Sorento is the large infotainment display, which measures a sizeable 12.3 inches. Kia offers a merged curved dual-screen option, which ups the size of the infotainment-slash-information display to a whopping 24 inches. The infotainment is likewise equipped with the brand’s in-house Kia Connect, while additional features include a premium Bose 12-speaker sound system for the higher trim.

The all-new Sorento is a revamp of the previous model. The first thing that one notices with the newer model is the absence of the trademark Kia tiger-nose front grill, which has been replaced by a boxier front grill, with the Kia badge plastered directly onto the hood instead of as a central medallion like in the older iteration. The next noticeable thing about it is the refreshed headlights, which now take on a T-shape and seamlessly frame the front and hood. The daytime running lights flank each side of the front fascia, while cube-shaped LED units provide much of its illuminating capacity. The fog lights have been repositioned to each side of the lower front bumper.

Its rear echoes the same aesthetics as the front but with a more clean-cut appeal. New, vertically-stacked taillights and a wider skid plate on the rear bumper give it a sportier look. While it does look cleaner, it loses some of the character that made the earlier Sorento distinctive.

The Sorento retains most of the aesthetics common among mid-sized SUVs but adds more sculpted touches like character lines on the side profile, a more distinctive C-pillar, and more rugged-looking wheel arches. This is topped off by either 17, 18 or 20-inch alloy rims which vary in design depending on your trim level.

The 2024 Sorento offers a more comfort-oriented ride than its previous iteration. Its McPherson strut suspension setup and multi-link rear suspension help to smooth out any bumps one might encounter in-road, while its somewhat elevated ground clearance adds to an even more fuss-free driving experience.

The Philippine Sorento only offers one engine option – a 2.2L inline-4 cylinder diesel engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission. This option offers up to 200 hp at 3,800 rpm, with a maximum torque capacity of 441 Nm at 1,750 to 2,750 rpm, and a displacement of 2,199 cc. 

There is talk of making other options, including a hybrid engine available in the local market before the year ends. So if you’re gearing up for a Sorento AWD or hybrid, you’ll have to wait. For now, the only thing offered on the market is the FWD drivetrain.

The Sorento takes passenger safety quite seriously. Aside from being equipped with the standard safety features common among all modern-day vehicles, Kia’s own in-house Active Safety Features can also be found across all trims. This means superior safety, regardless of its current 4-star NHTSA rating.
