Mazda 2 Sedan

The modern look of the Mazda 2 continues once you enter the cabin. The uncluttered, streamlined dashboard screams stylish by being minimalist which makes it a fun and easy car to drive. The 7-inch infotainment system strategically placed in the eye line of the instrument cluster comes with smartphone mirroring capability so the driver can use Waze or Google Maps while streaming your jam or favorite playlist. A narrow chrome detail connects the front AC vents while the center control cluster features unified round knobs. Seats are covered in fabric with accent stitches. 

One of the selling points of the Mazda 2 is its exterior. This Mazda sedan oozes modern style that appeals to the younger demographic of car buyers. The massive front grille adds a commanding presence to the interior with chrome details below that connect the LED headlights with LED running lamps. On the lower portion is another narrow chrome trim that flanks the barely visible air dam. The rear design is typical of any sedan but with an angled protruding taillight. On top is a shark fin antenna. The Mazda 2 rides on a set of gray metallic 160inch allow wheels and wrapped in 185/ 60 R16 rubber.

As the most affordable offering of Mazda, the Mazda 2 gets a MacPherson strut at the front and torsion beam axle at the rear for its suspension system and rack and pinion for steering. The steering wheel is tilt and telescopic with paddle shifters. Despite being an entry-level car, this Mazda sedan offers good handling control thanks to its G- Vectoring Control (GVC) technology that enhances stability when driving on straight roads by applying a small amount of braking force to the front tire which also reduces rollover when cornering and turning. Insulation is also a plus as it effectively minimizes wind and road noise for a more relaxed drive.

The Mazda 2 sedan is powered by a 1.5-liter SKYACTIV-G In-line 4-cylinder DOHC, 16 valves engine with 1,496cc displacement that delivers a maximum of 110 PS of output at 6,000 rpm and 141 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. It uses a direct injection fuel system and has a tank capacity of 44 Liters. The SKYACTIV technology of Mazda allows the engine to enhance its fuel efficiency by reducing pumping losses, enhancing anti-knock properties, and improving temperature control. As a result, the Mazda 2 can go for 30 mpg or 13 kmpl on city driving and 39 mpg or 17 kmpl on the highway. For a combined driving range of 34 mpg or 14.5 kmpl. 

When it comes to safety, the Mazda comes with the basics like dual front airbags, anti-locking braking (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), dynamic stability control (DSC), smart keyless entry system with push start button, and ISOFIX. But when it comes to driver-assist features, it is a bit lacking. Though it does have a rear parking sensor and a rearview camera to aid the driver when going in or out of parking, it does not have other systems that can ease driver fatigue when on the road like blind-spot detection, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and active cruise control. However, the lack of these systems is quite understandable given the price tag of the Mazda 2.

The Mazda 2 is more than just your average entry-level sedan. The modern design oozes poise and class which would greatly appeal to first time buyers and younger demographics looking to purchase a new car that reflects their personality and preference on what they like most on a vehicle. The connectivity features, the minimalist dashboard, soundproofing, fuel efficiency of the engine, and the safety features of the Mazda2 makes it an awesome choice. It’s like buying a premium car but with a more affordable price tag.
