MINI 5 Door

Like the exterior, the interior layout of the Mini 5-Door also has a perfectly balanced combination of retro and new-age elements, with several modern-day features only adding to the wholesome experience. For the cabin of the 5-Door, Mini offers nine upholstery options – Mini Yours Lounge Carbon Black, Dinamica/Leather Carbon Black, Dinamica/Fabric Carbon Black, Chester Leather Malt Brown, Chester Leather Satellite Grey, Cross Punch Leather Carbon Black, Fabric/Leatherette Black Pearl, Fabric/Leatherette Black Pearl Light Chequered and Double Stripe Fabric Carbon Black. There are four types of interior surfaces for the trim finish across the dashboard and door panels – Piano Black, Silver Chequered, Aluminium and Hazy Grey.

There are several round-themed elements present in the cabin of the Mini 5-Door, including the three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel and its controls, full-TFT instrument console screen and the centrally-placed circular touchscreen infotainment system with funky-looking surrounds. The cabin looks even more premium with elements like a head-up display, gloss black touches for the lower centre console, toggle-like switches for the automatic climate control and engine start-stop button and ambient lighting.

The Mini 5-Door is also available with optional packages, which brings along more features in the hatchback. One such package is Comfort Package Plus, which adds features like a heated steering wheel and front seats, panoramic sunroof and 360W Harman Kardon audio system with 12 speakers. While the increased wheelbase brings more knee room and legroom in the cabin, the space is still at a premium when compared to other similarly-priced hatchbacks.

Sharing its design with the 3-Door Hatchback, the Mini 5-Door has a nice fusion of retro and modern design elements, the combination of which makes this hatchback look cool and very youthful. There are a host of visual highlights that come together to make the Mini 5-Door an attention magnet.

The front profile of the Mini 5-Door has a sporty vibe to it, with both the variants of the hatchback getting round-themed inclined headlamps with LED projectors and daytime running LED rings around them. The front grille of the car has a hexagonal design with rounded edges and gloss black surrounds, with the two-part grille having honeycomb mesh for the inserts and air dams in the inner corners. There are additional sleek and vertically aligned air vents on the corners of the front bumper.

The side profile reveals that the Mini 5-Door gets a stretched wheelbase and additional rear doors above the Mini 3-Door, and despite the gainly changes, the Mini 5-Door still looks very proportionate with a well-planted stance. With slim wheel arch and door mouldings, the Mini 5-Door has gloss black touches for the door panels and fender element and a chrome finish for the wraparound window waistline garnish. Mini offers a wide variety of 17-inch and 18-inch alloy wheels for the 5-Door.

At the back, the Mini 5-Door continues its youthful neo-retro vibe with vertically aligned, round-edged, trapezoidal tail lamps with LED inserts and chrome surrounds. Here, the Mini 5-Door gets a gloss black finish for the side curtains of the rear windscreen and upper garnish for the license plate. While the Mini Cooper 5-Door gets a single exhaust setup, the Mini Cooper S 5-Door gets a sportier-looking rear bumper with centrally-placed dual exhaust ports.

The Mini 5-Door features adaptive suspension as standard in the Cooper S variant, which makes the already sporty suspension setup even more engaging. Inspiring confidence on both straights and corners, this suspension setup is a perfect match to the sporty appeal of the Mini 5-Door, but it does come with the compromise of stiff ride quality. There are three driving modes on offer too – Green (for reduced fuel consumption), Sport (for improved agility) and Mid (for an optimal balance of performance and efficiency).

Both the variants of the Mini 5-Door differ based on the powertrain options offered under their hoods. The Mini Cooper 5-Door has a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which claims 136 PS of power and 220 Nm of torque, while capable of hitting a top speed of 207 kmph and a 0-100 kmph sprint timing of 8.3 seconds. Meanwhile, the 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine in the Mini Cooper S 5-Door churns out 192 PS of power and 280 Nm of torque, while claiming a top speed of 235 kmph and 0-100 kmph sprint timing of 6.3 seconds. A 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is common to both variants of the Mini 5-Door.

While the standard safety features of the Mini 5-Door include six airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control, reverse parking sensors, hill start assist and electronic stability control, the optional Driving Assistance Package Plus adds more features like rearview camera and ADAS bits like lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control and more.

The Mini 5-Door justifies its sporty appearance with its spirited performance and agile handling, making it a true driver’s delight. The additional rear doors and slightly increased space at the rear only add to its practicality.
