Mitsubishi Xpander Cross

On the inside, the Mitsubishi Xpander Cross shares its entire cabin layout with the standard Xpander MUV. The overall design of the cabin, which is finished in a dual-tone black and brown theme, has been kept pretty simple and while it is decently equipped with features, it is the layout that makes it feel too plain-jane.

The three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel as well as analog instrument console of the Mitsubishi Xpander Cross is too simple to look at. The same thing can be said about the center console, where a large 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system sits at the top, with rectangular AC vents placed below them and three round dials for AC below the AC vents. 

Despite its compact nature, the Mitsubishi Xpander Cross has a cleverly laid seating arrangement, with multiple seating configurations usable as per the convenience. The cabin is decently kitted with features like push-button start with keyless entry, AC vents for all three rows, tilt and telescopic adjustable steering wheel, and a number of cup holders and small storage places in all the three rows.

When compared to other MUVs, the Mitsubishi Xpander Cross offers an amalgamation of a MUV and an SUV, with the overall stance and silhouette of a MUV and a couple of design bits which try to make it look like an SUV.

The front profile of the Mitsubishi Xpander Cross is its most aggressive looking one, with the MUV getting Mitsubishi’s latest design ethos of a very sharp looking X-shaped front grille. The grille has sharp upper extensions which flow towards the daytime running LEDs and has outer extensions flowing downwards towards the headlamp assemblies.

The trapezoidal headlamp assembly, consisting of square-shaped all-LED headlamps and trapezoidal-shaped clear lens indicators, are positioned on the front bumper. The squared shaped air vents on the front bumper, with silver-finished skid plate below it and round fog lamps placed beside it, adds some ruggedness to it.

The side profile of the Mitsubishi Xpander Cross too exhibits aggression to its fullest, with squared wheel arches, prominent fender accents and a sharp character line flowing through the door handles. The door-mounted rearview mirrors, thick side body molding, and large roof rails add some youthful appeal to the Mitsubishi Xpander Cross.

At the back, the Mitsubishi Xpander Cross gets sweptback L-shaped tail lamps around the edges of the rear windshield and a thick body cladding with a big silver skid plate at the bottom.

The Mitsubishi Xpander Cross is built on a monocoque construction, with the MPV getting Macpherson struts with a stabilizer at the front and torsion beam at the rear. The overall ride quality is quite comfortable, however, the steering wheel is too light-weighted for spirited driving

Under the hood of the Mitsubishi Xpander Cross sits a 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, which here is mated to a 4-speed automatic converter. The engine here produces a maximum power output of 104 PS and a peak torque output of 141 Nm.

The list of safety amenities made available in the Mitsubishi Xpander Cross include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, active stability control, traction control, hill start assist, and an emergency stop signal.

The Mitsubishi Xpander Cross, with its added rugged-looking design elements over the standard Xpander MUV, not only adds a dash of style to the overall design but also makes it look unique in the sea of common looking MUVs. The Xpander Cross, with its decently kitted and spacious cabin, comes across as a practical vehicle for mixed usage cycles.
