Porsche Taycan Overview
The Taycan is Porsche’s first all-electric vehicle. The much-anticipated Porsche Taycan touched down in the Philippines early this year. This exquisite-looking vehicle is the German carmaker’s first fully-electric four-door sportscar with style cues reminiscent of the popular Porsche 911. The flagship Turbo S is currently the only available variant in the country. While the model takes its name from a loose Turkish translation of “young lively horse,” don’t be fooled by the ‘Turbo’ moniker attached to it. Contrary to its title, the Turbo S variant does not run on a forced induction system or an internal combustion engine since it runs on an electric battery. However, that definitely doesn’t make it any less attractive or powerful. Besides its environmentally-friendly system, buyers of the Taycan Turbo S can expect a plethora of advanced features as well as the signature modern style of a Porsche model.

Porsche Taycan Interior
The first thing one would notice inside the Taycan is the multitude of tech features that are included, the most notable being the number of screens on the dashboard, namely: the 16.8-inch curved screen for the instrument cluster surrounded by touch-sensitive buttons, a 10.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, as well as an 8.4-inch auxiliary touchscreen with key shortcuts on the display. Porsche is also offering an optional additional infotainment screen for the passenger’s side of the dashboard. The carmaker has also shared that the driver’s seat can be positioned on the floor just like the 911. However, the Taycan’s seat actually doesn’t let you sit very low. The rear window is also a bit difficult to see out of and legroom for the rear seats themselves is a bit cramped. Overall, it can fit about three passengers along with the driver.

Porsche Taycan Exterior
The Taycan Turbo S features a sleek appearance that closely resembles the iconic Porsche 911. According to the carmaker, the Taycan was designed with the use of three-dimensional glass elements in mind. The front sports a flat, wide hood which is flanked by two raised wings that is a common feature for most Porsche sportscars. The LED matrix headlights curve into the edges of the vehicle, giving it a futuristic look. In addition to that, the four-point daytime running lights are now also flattered and wider compared to other Porsche models. The cooling air intakes are now much smaller as well and have integrated new flaps that control the air supply while also cooling the brakes. The roofline of the vehicle slopes downward to the rear and is dubbed as “flyline” by the Porsche designers. Topping it all off is the classic Porsche emblem embedded in the rear light bar with a glass-effect.

Porsche Taycan Ride & Handling
Due to the placement of the battery on the floor, the effect of the vehicle’s center of gravity is reduced. This is similar to the 911’s ride quality since the weight of the engine is situated near the rear axle. However, the impact of the electric battery definitely makes driving the Taycan a unique experience. Mechanical vibrations are so minimal that they’re virtually nonexistent since there are no pistons, valves, or crankshaft. Acceleration is incredibly smooth and makes overtaking easy on highways. Porsche also included a handy feature that allows you to raise the front of the vehicle when encountering bumps with just the push of a button. This extra clearance is meant to protect the battery pack from damage since it’s positioned underneath.

Porsche Taycan Engine & Fuel Consumption
The Taycan Turbo S is equipped with two electric motors and a 396 lithium-ion battery cell that provides power to all four wheels. The first electric motor drives the front through a single-speed automatic while the second drives the rear through a two-speed automatic. Porsche has collaborated with Swedish-Swiss technology company ABB to develop the model’s fast-charging DC Charger. The charging unit can provide up to 175 kW of power and charge the vehicle from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 30 minutes--which is good enough for 300 kilometers. For comparison, five-minute charging using the ABB charger can already give you 65 kilometers while the maximum charge has a maximum range of 400 kilometers. The Taycan will also come with a Porsche Mobile Charger Connect, as well as an AC charger with a dedicated 5-inch touchscreen display. This includes features such as adjustable current rating, charging history, and PIN lock. The charger can be plugged into any household socket. For quicker charging time, drivers can also opt for an industrial socket. Overall, it can generate 625 hp of power and 1025 Nm of torque, and reach 100 kmph in just 2.8 seconds.
-
Porsche Taycan Braking & Safety
The Taycan is equipped with standard safety features such as anti-lock brakes, stability control, cruise control, front- and side-impact airbags. It also has some advanced features such as overhead airbags, knee airbags, seatbelt pretensioners, and rain-sensing wipers. Porsche is offering the following optional features as well: adaptive cruise control, a back-up camera, and rear parking aid.

Porsche Taycan Verdict
The Porsche Taycan Turbo S is a game-changer in the world of sportscars thanks to its fully-electric engine. What’s impressive is it manages to still retain the powerful and luxurious driving experience Porsche is known for. Its charging capacity can still use some improvement, but with how most vehicles are going electric anyway, we may be seeing more advancements here soon. As of now, it might not be the most ideal for long drives but is enough for short city driving. The price of the Porsche Taycan Turbo S is available upon request.
