About Volvo Philippines

A Swedish Multinational manufacturing tycoon in the automobile industry. Volvo is often credited with the production and distribution of Mechanical equipment, trucks, and buses. Interestingly, the brand is also associated with the supply of marine and drive pieces of equipment and was also ranked 2nd in the world for its diverse manufacturing of heavy-duty trucks.

Volvo was originally registered as a trademark, back in May 1911. At the time of its patent, the brand was expected to be limited to SKF ball bearings. However, the businesses didn’t go that long but SKF retained the initials to use it as the trademark for all its bearing products.

The story of Volvo goes back in the year 1924 when Assar Gabrielsson, an engineer from KTH Royal institute who happened to be a sales manager at SKF, made up his mind to start manufacturing a Swedish car. Primarily, the brand maker wanted to make the cars very strong and durable enough to tackle the rough roads and long cold winters. 

It was a matter of years after 10 August 1926 when AB Volvo firm was finally ready with a commercial vehicle after designing at least 10 prototypes. Starting in 1927 with their first car, Volvo ÖV 4, the Volvo group, in partnership with the SKF made their first car official for Hisingen, Gothenburg.

The initial year saw the production of 280 cars and was a success. Following the success of their cars, Volvo decided to step on truck manufacturing with their "Series 1" that made its official debut in January 1928. 

Following the evolution of the brand throughout the ages, Volvo is now one of the greatest and major contributors to the automobile segment.  Volvo made its way to the shores of the Philippines with the Scandinavian Motors Corporation who are the responsible importer and distributor of the brand in the country.
