The suspension setup on the XC90 comprises independent upper and lower arms at the front and an independent multi-link at the rear. The air suspension with optional Four-C active chassis helps keep all four wheels at the same height; it can be adjusted according to different driving conditions. You can switch between four drive modes based on the driving conditions. Comfort mode prioritises comfort, Dynamic mode sharpens the car's responses, Eco mode prioritises efficiency and Off-road mode helps out in rough conditions. In addition to these four modes, you can customise your own Individual mode to combine various characteristics.

The Volvo XC90 derives power from a 1969cc, 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, 16 Valve DOHC diesel engine that churns max power of 235 hp and peak torque of 480 Nm. This power is relayed to all the wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission setup with an instant traction system. Volvo claims that the XC90 consumes 6.4-7.5 litres of fuel per 100 kms. Its range-topping T8 Twin Engine models use powerful plug-in hybrid powertrains to offer a flawless performance with specific drive modes to suit all driving conditions. Its electric-only Pure mode provides zero-emission and a silent drive.

Braking responsibilities are performed by disc brakes at both ends, aided by ABS. In terms of safety, the Volvo XC90 comes equipped with intelligent driver-assist technology that can identify and help avoid a collision with other vehicles, cyclists, pedestrians, etc. Other standard safety features include Electronic Brake Distribution, lane departure warning system, front and rear parking sensors, TPS (Tire Pressure Monitoring), Start-stop system, stability control, rear seat belts, seat belt warning, day & night rearview mirror, height-adjustable front seat belts, crash sensor, front impact beams, side-impact beams, door ajar warning, engine check warning, and traction control.

The Volvo XC90 is a fantastic family car with an upper hand compared to most of its rivals.
