BMW R 1250 RT

If standing out from the crowd is a competition, there are very few motorcycles that can beat the distinctiveness of the BMW R 1250 RT. This modern touring motorcycle has a futuristic design language, which coupled with its sheer size, gives it an immense amount of street cred.

The BMW R 1250 RT looks gigantic when viewed head-on, all thanks to the massive front fairing. This fairing has a curved design and measures large, which gives the BMW R 1250 RT a massive-looking front face. Within this front fairing, a large wing-shaped headlamp is placed, which comes with a centrally-placed halogen headlamp assisted by projector bulbs with daytime running LEDs on either of its sides. At the top of the fairing, one gets an electrically-adjustable transparent windscreen and rearview mirrors with turn indicators attached to its lower sides.

The large side panels of the front cowl merge well with the giant fuel tank of the BMW R 1250 RT to give it an appeal of a semi-faired motorcycle. This large combination of a front cowl, side panels and fuel tank sits above the massive engine sitting beneath it, which is finished in a theme of black. While the premium alloy wheels of this motorcycle are finished in silver, the single-sided exhaust pipe of the motorcycle is finished in a theme of chrome. The BMW R 1250 RT gets split individual seats for both rider and pillion, which are large and supremely comfortable.

The sleek and curvy-looking side panels below the seats flow towards the wide-looking tailpiece of the BMW R 1250 RT. On both the sides of the tailpiece, one gets large panniers attached to it. Behind the pillion seat, the motorcycle also gets an aluminium luggage rack, which also serves as a large grab rail for the pillion rider. The tail lamp cluster placed below this aluminium luggage rack comes integrated with both LED tail lamps and indicators within it.

The rider’s cockpit of the BMW R 1250 RT also looks massive with large clip-on handlebars and a comprehensive instrument console with an LCD screen displaying fuel gauge, MID, clock, odometer, trip meters, gear engaged and various other information. This screen is placed between two analogue dials, one each for the speedometer and tachometer.

Sitting over a two-section frame with a bolted-on rear subframe, the BMW R 1250 RT gets a sophisticated suspension setup of 45mm telescopic upside-down forks with a central spring strut at the front and aluminium single-sided swing-arm with BMW Motorrad Paralever with WAD strut having hydraulically adjustable spring pre-load and rebound damping at the rear. The soft setup for the suspension, along with 120/70 ZR17 front and 180/55 ZR17 rear tyre, make up for a perfect setup for excellent grip and stability while touring at higher speeds. To bring this mammoth motorcycle to a halt, the BMW R 1250 RT comes equipped with dual 320mm discs at the front and a single 276mm disc at the rear.

The BMW R 1250 RT sources its power from a four-stroke, air/liquid-cooled, flat-twin, 1254cc Boxer engine, which is one of the biggest twin-cylinder engines BMW produces for its motorcycle range. Coupled with a 6-speed gearbox, this engine pumps out 136 PS of maximum power output and 143 Nm of maximum torque output. The BMW R 1250 RT is capable of hitting a top speed of 200 kmph, while its engine transfers power to the rear wheels via a shaft drive.

The BMW R 1250 RT gets a decently long equipment list for safety, comprising ABS Pro, automatic stability control, two riding modes – rain and road, multi-controller and hill hold assist.

The BMW R 1250 RT is designed and engineered with the intent of providing unadulterated comfort in its riding experience, a job at which it succeeds with its refined and torquey twin-cylinder engine and premium and supple chassis components.
