Indian Scout

The Indian Scout has remained more or less unchanged for almost a decade now. However, despite being a decade-old design, the Indian Scout still looks extremely charming with its low slung stance and traditional cruiser design lines, or rather should we say curves.

At the front, the Indian Scout gets a simple-looking rounded headlamp, which is positioned a bit lower and is placed within a blacked-out housing. This headlamp is flanked with amber rounded turn indicators in chromed housings, which are mounted on the outer edges of the front forks. Just above the headlamp and below the high-set handlebar, there is a small piano-black garnish, which proudly reads the company’s name. The front wheel gets a nicely curved body-coloured fender over it.

The sheer elegance of the Indian Scout is even more apparent in its side profile. The motorcycle gets a long, wide, and nicely curved fuel tank, which flows nicely towards the low-set rider seat and then towards the rear seat. This whole design from the front edge of the fuel tank to the back of the pillion set creates a nice impression of an S-shaped curve, which makes the motorcycle look poised.

The engine of the Scout is finished in a dual-tone theme of black and chrome, with the long double barrel exhausts on the right side of the motorcycle having an all-chrome treatment. What adds muscle to the design of the motorcycle are chubby tyres over the multi-spoke alloy wheels, thus adding a touch of a bobber to its design.

At the back, the Indian Scout has a swooping fender placed just below the seat, which again adds to the curvaceous appeal of the motorcycle. This rear fender gets a vertically aligned and ovular LED tail lamp. The motorcycle also gets a small extended tip at the bottom of the rear fender, which gets turn indicators attached to either side.

The Indian Scout gets a single-pod instrument console which is finished in a theme of chrome. This unit has an analogue speedometer and a small rectangular LCD within it, the latter of which shows readouts for fuel gauge, odometer, trip meters, and a few other data. There is a USB charger hidden beneath the instrument console, which comes in handy during long trips.

The overall mechanical architecture of the Indian Scout is quite simplistic, with the motorcycle getting a conventional suspension setup of telescopic forks with 120mm travel at the front and dual hydraulic coil springs with 76m travel at the rear. The ride quality is plush, which is further made comfortable with broad 130/90 B16 front tyre and 150/80 B16 tyre rear tyre. The motorcycle gets a single 298mm disc at both front and rear for braking duties.

Powering the Indian Scout is a four-stroke, liquid-cooled, V-twin, 1133cc engine, which claims a maximum power output of 94 bhp and a maximum torque output of 97 Nm. The engine is paired to a 6-speed gearbox and produces a strong grunt in the lower and middle RPMs, which gives it effortless cruising abilities on open highways.

The Indian Scout comes equipped with only a dual-channel ABS in the name of safety. We would like to see more safety features in the Indian Scout.

The Indian Scout is lacking in terms of modernity and features, though, the overall design has a timeless appeal to it. The torquey performance from the engine and a comfortable ride quality further add a charm to the no-nonsense touring credentials of the Indian Scout.
