Suzuki RM-Z250 Review

Suzuki RM-Z250 Overview
Suzuki has one of the most versatile and practical big bike lineup in the two-wheeler market of the Philippines today, and the RM-Z 250 serves as the smallest one in that very lineup. The Suzuki RM-Z 250 shows the expertise of Japanese engineering in the quarter-liter dual-purpose motorcycle category and is being offered in the Philippines in just one variant, with the dual-tone blue and yellow paint scheme as a standard offering.

Suzuki RM-Z250 Design
Like all the basic dual-purpose off-road motorcycles we come across in the two-wheeler market out there, the Suzuki RM-Z 250 too has a basic and lean design with a tall stance. However, what makes the Suzuki RM-Z 250 stand out a bit is the great color combination and bigger body panels on fitment, which make it look larger than its competitors.
At the front, the Suzuki RM-Z 250 gets a plain white shield in place of a conventional headlamp, which clearly suggests that this motorcycle is not meant for street legal usage. This white shield is assisted by a long front fender which is mounted quite higher and gives the Suzuki RM-Z 250 a rugged appeal when viewed head-on. The golden-colored upside-down front forks look premium and are offered decent protection by vertical black plastic protectors at their bottom.
The side profile of the Suzuki RM-Z 250 looks cluttered and quite compact, especially the area surrounding the engine. However, the long body panels, especially the one surrounding the fuel tank partially exposing the fuel tank and frame as well as the sleek on just below the seat, do make the Suzuki RM-Z 250 look longer than what it is.
There is an additional diamond-shaped white plastic panel surrounding the high-mounted under-seat exhaust pipe. Apart from these, the long aluminium frame member flowing from the handlebar clamp all the way down to the swingarm do make the Suzuki RM-Z 250 look beefy. The proper off-road spec tires over the spoke wheels (with the larger front one) and the sleek tailpiece with a sharp end complete the outgoing look of the Suzuki RM-Z 250.
As expected from a proper dual-purpose motorcycle, the Suzuki RM-Z 250 does not get other conventional bits like a fully functional instrument console, functional switchgear, and rearview mirrors, thus further making the motorcycle look basic. However, the taut handlebar and seat, with rear set footpegs, make way for a very committed riding posture.

Suzuki RM-Z250 Ride & Handling
Suzuki is known to make some of the very reliable motorcycles in the world, and the Suzuki RM-Z 250, with its top-notch cycle parts, promises the same. The upside-down hydraulic telescopic forks at the front and a fully adjustable monoshock at the rear, along with petal disc brakes at both ends, do make the Suzuki RM-Z 250 a proper off-road motorcycle. This particular trait is further strengthened by off-road tires with beefy treads and durable spoke wheels.
-
Suzuki RM-Z250 Engine & Fuel Consumption
Powering the Suzuki RM-Z 250 is a simple four-stroke, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, 249cc engine, which has been mated with a 5-speed gearbox. Suzuki has kept the maximum power and torque outputs of the engine under wraps, however, considering the low kerb weight of just 106 kgs, the Suzuki RM-Z 250 is expected to offer some very good performance figures while on the roll.
-
Suzuki RM-Z250 Braking & Safety
The big capacity Suzukis are known for their immense reliable nature but are also infamous for offering lesser electronic riding aids than the competition. The Suzuki RM-Z 250 falls under the same bracket, as it misses out on many new-age electronics in order to keep the weight in check.
-
Suzuki RM-Z250 Verdict
With its basics sorted out pretty well, the Suzuki RM-Z 250 comes across as a fairly reliable and durable quarter-liter off-road motorcycle. The engine packs in solid punch, and the light-weighted chassis further makes the motorcycle feel agile and versatile, especially when the going gets tougher.
