UM DSR II Review

UM DSR II Overview
The UM DSR II is an entry-level performance-oriented dual-purpose motorcycle, which has been designed and engineered for those who want a budget-friendly bike that performs equally well on both urban roads and off-road trails. The UM DSR II has been made available in the Philippines in a range of five color options of red, black, grey, orange, and green.

UM DSR II Design
The UM DSR II has a traditional design of a dual-purpose motorcycle, with its tall stance well complemented with the edgy and sleek looks of an off-road motorcycle. This athletic appeal of the UM DSR II makes it look like a youthful all-rounder.
At the front, the UM DSR II has a compact trapezoidal headlamp which is encased in a small bikini fairing. This entire front fascia gets small and sleek clear lens turn indicators. While the front face of the motorcycle is not large enough to grab one’s attention, it certainly matches the character of the motorcycle. Just like a proper dual-purpose motorcycle, the UM DSR II also gets a high-mounted front fender, that has been shaped like a long break for it. What adds more visual appeal to the otherwise simple-looking front design is the golden finish for the front forks and vertical plastic cowls for the lower part of the front forks.
The purposeful-looking side body cowls and fuel tank are small but impress with their sharp cuts and creases, thus adding to the athletic design of the motorcycle. The central side body panels, engine, and spoke wheels are all finished in black. The other bits of the UM DSR II which give it the much-needed flavour of dual-purpose motorcycles are a long engine bash plate, high-mounted exhaust pipe beside the pillion seat, and off-road tyres over spoke wheels. The rear look of the UM DSR II is small for a 200cc motorcycle, but it impresses with the two-part triangular design for the tail lamp, with triangular LED inserts within it.
The rider’s cockpit of the UM DSR II is fairly large with a conventional layout for a sub-200cc motorcycle. The part-digital console of the UM DSR II has separate housings for the digital dash comprising of a speedometer, gear indicator, odometer, trip meters and fuel gauge, and a rounded all-analog tachometer. The motorcycle has decent levels of build quality and fit and finish levels, however, there is room for improvement.
-
UM DSR II Ride & Handling
For its category, the UM DSR II has decent mechanical hardware which consists of inverted hydraulic telescopic forks at the front and an adjustable mono-shock at the rear for the suspension setup. The brakes employed on the motorcycle are a petal disc at the front and a drum setup at the rear. The motorcycle gets 21-inch spoke wheel at the front and an 18-inch spoke wheel at the rear, both of which are wrapped with tube-type knobby tyres for an equal amount of grip on both off-road terrains and smooth tarmacs. However, with 830mm of seat height, shorter riders might find the riding position a bit too tall for their liking.
-
UM DSR II Engine & Fuel Consumption
The UM DSR II sources its power from a four-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled, carbureted, 196.4cc engine, which makes 13.5 bhp of maximum power and 13 Nm of maximum torque. For a 200cc motorcycle, the figures might not sound too enthusiastic. However, the UM DSR II is no slouch and has decent power on tap. The engine has been paired to a 5-speed gearbox.
-
UM DSR II Braking & Safety
While the UM DSR II misses out on crucial safety aids like ABS, the motorcycle gets a unique blind spot monitoring system, in which the rearview mirrors are integrated with small convex mirrors on their corners. The motorcycle also comes with 360-degree LED illumination, in which the LED lights present all around the motorcycle emit light in sync with signal lights to alert other motorists on the road.
-
UM DSR II Verdict
With its dual purpose theme of blending urban styling with off-road mechanical bits, the UM DSR II offers a unique and versatile package, making it hugely practical for varying riding conditions.
