Things We Like in Yamaha Nmax
Feature-rich: Though it’s an entry-level scooter, the NMAX comes with a fully digital instrument cluster, alloy wheels, disc brakes, and attractive styling.
Refined powertrain: The Yamaha NMAX comes with a very refined 155cc engine which offers a smooth performance. Acceleration is one of the best in class
Stable cruiser: The maxi-scooter has impressive cruising capability. It can easily cross 62mph on highways with dual carriageways. The ride is well-balanced.
City performer: The Yamaha NMAX is a great city performer and handles extremely well in traffic. Turning corners is easy.
Things We Don't Like in Yamaha Nmax
Basic design: The design of the NMAX is extremely basic. There’s not much thrill here. Most of its rivals have a far more attractive design
Overpriced: The NMAX may come as overpriced to some buyers as it doesn’t have LED lighting. Other segment-standard features are expected from it
Small console: The digital instrument cluster of the NMAX is rather small. It’s often difficult to read the numbers, particularly during rains.
Floorboard storage: The maxi-scooter doesn’t have floorboard storage space which makes the vehicle unpractical for city travelling. The only storage space is located under the seat.

Yamaha Nmax Review

Yamaha Nmax Overview
A maxi-scooter, the Yamaha Nmax is a popular choice among the Philippine masses and takes on the likes of the Honda PCX and other 150cc scooters in the market. Available in two different models, Standard and ABS, the Yamaha Nmax carries a price tag that reads Php 109,000 and Php 119,000 for the two models, respectively. A well laid-out appearance, comfortable ride quality, and a smooth & refined engine make for a great maxi-scooter in the form of the Yamaha Nmax. But, how well does this Japanese scooter perform in different aspects? Let's know together as we discuss various peculiarities of the Yamaha Nmax.
-
Yamaha Nmax Design
While the Yamaha Nmax is not the most glamorous scooter out there, it still packs in just the right amount of beauty to allure a high number of customers and acts as a head-turner while conquering on the roads. For starters, the Yamaha Nmax measures 1,955 mm long, 740 mm wide, and 1,115 mm tall, and flaunts a ground clearance of 135 mm. The Japanese scooter features a triple lamp LED headlamp setup, LED turn signals, 3D Nmax logos, LED tail lamp, single grab rail, and other bits & pieces. The instrument cluster, however, is a bit small in size and might not be the best when put beside the units found on Nmax's competitors. Then there are 13-inch alloy wheels that come dipped in either black or copper finish depending on the trim and exterior color you choose. Speaking more of the exterior paint schemes, the options on offer include Midnight Black, Gun Metal Gray, and Blue.

Yamaha Nmax Ride & Handling
Courtesy of solid suspension setup, backbone type frame, wide & well-cushioned seat, and handlebars that reside well-within the reach, the Yamaha Nmax offers a very comfortable and enjoyable ride quality. While the suspension setup comprises of telescopic forks at the front and a unit swing at the rear, the seat height, on the other hand, measures at 765 mm, and doesn't pose any kind of trouble to even shorter riders. Moreover, at 127-kg, the Japanese scooter is also fairly easy to maneuver even in heavy traffic.
-
Yamaha Nmax Engine & Fuel Consumption
Yamaha and well-refined engines go hand in hand, don't they? Just like any other Yamaha two-wheeler out there, the Nmax is no different and houses a very smooth as well as a powerful engine. Powering the Yamaha Nmax is a 155cc four-stroke single-cylinder SOHC petrol-fed engine churning out 14.8 hp of maximum power at 8,000 rpm and a peak torque of 14.4 Nm at 6,000 revs. The potent engine on the Nmax also gets liquid cooling along with Yamaha very own Blue Core technology and Variable Valve Actuation (VVA). The power is then channeled to the rear wheel via a V-Belt automatic transmission. Even though it carries a highly refined and well-proven engine, the Yamaha Nmax still delivers a mileage of 35 kmpl, which is surprisingly low.
-
Yamaha Nmax Braking & Safety
In the braking department too, the Yamaha Nmax performs quite well. The coefficient is set high by the presence of disc brakes at both front and rear. Furthermore, the top-end variant also comes featuring anti-lock braking tech, which further takes the braking and safety levels to a step above.
-
Yamaha Nmax Verdict
From Php 109,000 to Php 119,000, the Yamaha Nmax is indeed a great buy. While the absence of some trendy features and a rather insipid design language might let a few potential customers down, the Japanese scooter, nevertheless, justifies its price tag with its robust build quality, superior fit & finish, impeccable riding experience, capable powertrain, and safety features like ABS. The Yamaha Nmax certainly deserves a test ride.
