Hino FY1EUSM Overview
The Hino FY1EUSM is one of the largest trucks present in the overall lineup of 70 Series of heavy-duty commercial trucks from the Japanese truck specialist. In terms of size as well as the engine and its performance, the Hino FY1EUSM belongs to the best of the series of heavy-duty trucks. Available in a sole paint shade of white, the Hino FY1EUSM can be had in one of the three different body styles in which it is available – dumper, mixer, and cargo.

Hino FY1EUSM Interior
The Hino FY1EUSM manages to look quite decent and appealing when viewed from the outside, however, the same story is somehow not replicated when you take its interior cabin into consideration. The overall layout, though very functional and practical, lacks the modernity one would expect from a premium truck.
The driver’s cockpit of the Hino FY1EUSM is a combination of a two-spoke steering wheel as well as a simple but informative-looking analog instrument console. Talking about the center console, the whole large panel is slightly tilted towards the driver side for more ergonomic placement. There are a few rectangular housings on the center console, some of which are open storage bins, with a panel of manual AC controls on it as well. The cabin also gets simple-looking AC vents which are placed on both sides of the instrument console.

Hino FY1EUSM Exterior
Hino has carried out the same design philosophy for all the trucks of its 700 series of commercial vehicles, including the Hino FY1EUSM. While the truck manages to look decent and has a good road presence with its large dimensions, there is no sense of exclusivity as its design is common with the rest of the 700 series of trucks.
When viewed head-on, the Hino FY1EUSM impresses with its tallish appearance. The upper half of the front profile understandably gets a wide rectangular windshield, which has rounded edges at the bottom. The major highlight of the front profile of the Hino FY1EUSM, however, happens to be the huge multi-slat grille, which also extends over the front bumper as well. There are three thick horizontal slats in the grille, with the first two spanning over the front apron and the last third on the front bumper.
Hino has cleverly positioned the lights of the Hino FY1EUSM, with the triangular turn indicators mounted on the lower edges of the front apron just above the front bumper. The headlamps too are nicely mounted on the far corners of the front bumper.
There are nicely laid out trapezoidal and rectangular recesses that cover the side profile of the Hino FY1EUSM, on its door panels. To complement its large truck persona, the side wheel arches get thick cladding, whereas the truck comes with vertically laid out rearview mirrors whose hinges are mounted on the door panels and not A-pillars.

Hino FY1EUSM Ride & Handling
The Hino FY1EUSM sits on an extended body of the 700 Series of trucks and shares its basic suspension components with the rest of them. This includes the suspension setup of semi-elliptical leaf springs with shock absorbers and stabilisers at the front and semi-elliptical leaf springs with torque rods at the back.
Even the brakes of the Hino FY1EUSM have been shared as well, with leading and trailing shoes for front and rear wheels with auto brake shoe adjuster and full air dual circuit ‘S’ cam-type service brakes present in the truck. For parking purposes, the Hino FY1EUSM comes with a spring brake acting on the front and rear frontward wheels.
-
Hino FY1EUSM Engine & Fuel Consumption
The Hino FY1EUSM sources its power from a 12.9-liter inline six-cylinder water-cooled turbocharged diesel engine, which gets the assistance of intercooler and overhead camshafts. This is the same engine that does its duty on the lower-spec Hino FS1E truck, and here too it is in the same state of tune – 410 PS of maximum power and 1863 Nm of maximum torque. Here too, the engine is paired to a 7-speed manual gearbox.
-
Hino FY1EUSM Braking & Safety
The only safety feature present in the Hino FY1EUSM is ABS.
-
Hino FY1EUSM Verdict
The Hino FY1EUSM, in isolation, is a very capable truck with immensely capable load-carrying capacity as well as a torquey performance from its large engine. However, there is no sense of exclusivity when compared to the rest of the heavy-duty trucks from the stable to which it belongs.
