Hino FY2P Review

Hino FY2P Overview
The Hino FY2P sits in the lineup of commercial vehicles from Hino Motors from Japan as its biggest and flagship offering. This heavy-duty 8x4 truck from Hino is the largest in terms of dimensions and belongs to the 700 series of heavy-duty trucks from Hino. The Hino FY2P is being offered in a single paint shade of white and is available in three different body styles to choose from, namely dumper, mixer, and cargo.

Hino FY2P Interior
Another aspect which the Hino FY2P shared with the rest of the trucks from the 700 Series of heavy-duty offerings is the lackluster cabin. While the cabin feels practical and functional with its good ergonomics and perfect placement of controls, the design and layout feel very dated by modern standards.
The Hino FY2P’s driver’s cockpit feels very functional and simple with the presence of a 2-spoke steering wheel and a plain-looking analog instrument console. The center console is quite large in size and is faced towards the driver for a better ergonomic setup. This centre console has a few rectangular housings for the control panel of manual AC and a few storage bins.

Hino FY2P Exterior
While the overall basic design of the Hino FY2P is completely on the lines of other trucks from the 700 Series of heavy-duty trucks. However, Hino has executed few alterations over the rest of them, to make sure the Hino FY2P looks the part as the flagship offering from the manufacturer.
While all the trucks of 700 Series from Hino look tall when viewed head-on, the Hino FY2P goes one step further by offering a large roof head over it. The rest of the overall design, however, looks exactly the same as other 700 Series trucks like FY1EUSM, FS2P, and FS1E. The overall front profile of the Hino FY2P is divided into two halves – while the upper one houses the rectangular windshield with curved lower edges, the lower half incorporates the large and intimidating looking wide grille, which has three thick horizontal slats and spans a bit on the front bumper as well.
While the triangular amber turn indicators are placed on the lower edges of the front apron, the headlamps are placed on the corners of the front bumper. Another major inclusion in the Hino FY2P happens to be that of small rounded fog lamps, placed just below the headlamps. The design of the door panels and placement of rearview mirrors with their hinges on the door panels are completely shared with the rest of the 700 series heavy-duty trucks as well.

Hino FY2P Ride & Handling
While the Hino FY2P is the largest truck in the 700 Series of heavy-duty trucks in terms of dimensions, it gets the same mechanical underpinnings from the others. The suspension combination of semi-elliptical leaf springs with shock absorbers and stabiliser at the front and semi-elliptical leaf springs with torque rods at the back is the same as in other 700 series of trucks.
The Hino FY2P gets a braking system of leading and trailing shoes for front and rear wheels with auto brake shoe adjuster and full air dual circuit ‘S’ cam-type service brakes present in the truck, which too is shared with other 700 Series of trucks. The Hino FY2P also gets a spring brake acting on the front and rear frontward wheels for parking purposes.
-
Hino FY2P Engine & Fuel Consumption
In terms of engine, the Hino FY2P misses out on the large and most powerful 12.9-liter diesel engine of the smaller FY1EUSM, and instead gets a smaller 10.5-liter inline six-cylinder water-cooled turbocharged diesel engine. The engine is blessed with essentials like overhead camshafts and intercoolers and is tuned to produce a maximum power output of 373 PS and maximum torque of 1565 Nm. The power produced from the engine is channeled to the wheels via a 12-speed manual gearbox.
-
Hino FY2P Braking & Safety
The sole prominent safety feature present in the Hino FY2P is ABS.
-
Hino FY2P Verdict
The Hino FY2P rightfully deserves the title of the flagship truck from the Japanese commercial vehicle maker, with its large dimensions, torque engine, and tallish visual appeal giving it an appeal of a mighty truck.
