Hyundai HD 600

The interior cabin of the Hyundai HD 600 has a couple of interesting bits like faux wood finished curved center console and faux wood inserts on the passenger side of the dashboard. However, for a premium full-size heavy-duty truck, the Hyundai HD 600 lacks many features on the inside, with the rest grey finish of the cabin dulling its overall appeal.

The driver’s cockpit of the Hyundai HD 600 looks quite archaic with a two-spoke steering wheel and a large but dated-looking rectangular instrument console, the latter of which comes with a number of rounded analog gauges. However, the curved center console spices up things a bit inside the cabin, with the outer portion of the console here having a 1-DIN audio system and rectangular storage bin and the inner portion getting the rectangular panel for switches and control panel for AC.

The Hyundai HD 600 has the same bog, bulky, and attractive-looking design as the smaller HD series of medium and heavy-duty trucks. While it is a good thing considering how different it looks from the heavy-duty offerings of other manufacturers, the fact that it completely resembles that of smaller trucks from Hyundai itself curbs its individuality within Hyundai’s portfolio.

The entire front appearance of the Hyundai HD 600 looks majestic, with the protruding middle portion of the front apron being the highlight of the overall design of the front here. This panel houses the upper portion of the big trapezoidal grille, which is finished in black and has rounded edges as well as three horizontal slats. This panel also comes with small vertically placed air vents on extreme outer corners of it.

The other portion of the grille, which accommodates the other two slats of the grille, is placed on the large front bumper. In addition, the bumper also comes with trapezoidal headlamps as well as fog lamps placed on outer corners, with the headlamps placed above the fog lamps. The uppermost part of the front profile has a large windshield, which comes with three wipers, rounded edges, and two grab rails below it.

The side profile of the Hyundai HD 600, like the front, too manages to look distinctive, thanks to the sharp character line which flows across the width of the door panels. The other traditional bits of a large heavy-duty truck, like side cladding on the large wheel arches, hinged black rearview mirrors, and steps at the bottom are present there on the Hyundai HD 600 as well.

Underpinning the Hyundai HD 600 is a ladder-on-frame chassis, which gets the assistance of a suspension setup of semi-elliptic laminated leaf springs with shackle links at both front and rear. The Hyundai HD 600 is equipped with a full air-operated dual-circuit service brake and spring-loaded type chamber parking brake as standard fitments.

A large truck needs a large heart to put it in motion – Hyundai understands this fact pretty well and has equipped the HD 600 with a big and powerful D6CA41 series inline six-cylinder diesel engine. With a maximum power output of 410 PS and a peak torque output of 1844 Nm, it is one of the most powerful oil burners out there for a heavy-duty truck. The engine is married to a 16-speed gearbox, which gets 2 reverse gears in addition.

The Hyundai HD 600 gets ABS and retractable seat belts as the major safety features onboard.

The Hyundai HD 600, for a full-sized 4x2 heavy-duty truck, gets the most appropriate mechanical setup with a torquey engine and a very strong suspension unit. However, for a large truck, the equipment list feels basic, and so does the overall interior cabin layout.
