Honda City Review

Honda City Overview
Looking for a reliable everyday vehicle without compromising style or public impression? The Honda City has got you covered. This car offers a stylish sporty look and advanced safety features through its Honda Sensing system. And, on top of that, this car also runs smoothly and efficiently in the city, living up to its name. It is definitely one of the most premium sedans within the B-segment. The Honda City is available in three variants - 1.5 S CVT Honda Sensing, which is priced at ₱998,000, 1.5 V CVT Honda Sensing, which is priced at ₱1.083 million, and the top variant, 1.5 RS CVT Honda Sensing, which is priced at ₱1.138 million. It is available in six colours: Ignite Red Metallic, Obsidian Blue Pearl, Meteoroid Gray Metallic, Taffeta White, Lunar Silver Metallic, and Platinum White Pearl.

Honda City Interior
Inside, the Honda City slightly lacks the styling that it had with its exterior. The top variant, RS, has a black-with-red-trim interior finish, which still looks sporty but needs a little bit more life or youthfulness, in my opinion. However, its seats are well-padded and can provide ergonomics that is great for B-segment standards. All variants have 2 USB charging ports, 4 bottle holders, at least 2 cup holders (RS has 4), and at least 3 coin and card holders (RS has 4). All variants also come with an accessory socket at the front, while only the RS has two at the rear.
Drivers of the top variant have a 4.2-inch full color TFT meter with red ambient light, while drivers of the lower trims have the white and green ambient light version. All passengers can enjoy an 8-inch touchscreen audio system that offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, WebLink, Bluetooth, and another USB port. The infotainment system is linked to a 4-speaker sound system. Overall, the interior styling might be a bit dull, but the functionality, comfort, and convenience inside the Honda City really makes it a great contender within its class.

Honda City Exterior
The Honda City’s face is reminiscent of the ninth-generation Civic. Among the B-segment sedans in the country, it has one of the most aggressive stances on the road because of its sporty front grille and bumper. The top-of-the-line gets a high-gloss black grille with the ‘RS’ emblem and a sport bumper, both of which separate it from the rest in terms of prestige. On the other hand, the lower trims are given chrome front grilles and standard bumpers. The RS is also equipped with LED lighting, while the lower two have halogen projectors. Only the top and mid variants are given fog lights for extra illumination and visibility. The RS has LED fog lights, while the mid variant has the halogen counterpart.
This sedan has character lines from the headlight to the tail light, giving it a striking silhouette. The top variant has side sill garnishes and high-gloss black door mirrors for a sportier sideview. At the back, the RS gets a blacked-out trunk spoiler and rear bumper, whereas the two lower trims have standard bumpers and no spoilers. All variants are 1,748 mm in width, 1,467 mm in height, and 2,600 mm in wheelbase. In terms of length, the top variant is 4,589 mm, while the two lower trims are 4,580 mm. They all run on 16-inch alloy wheels: black cut for the RS, silver cut for the V CVT, and silver paint for the S CVT.

Honda City Ride & Handling
The Honda City utilizes a suspension combination of a MacPherson Strut at the front and a Torsion Beam at the rear. For a B-segment sedan, its ride offers class-leading smoothness and responsiveness, showcasing the Honda brand of driving. Even though its RS variant is not comparable to a Civic in terms of sportiness, you’ll still have a good road feel and a slightly firm maneuvering with this sedan.
-
Honda City Engine & Fuel Consumption
The Honda City is powered by a 1.5L, in-line 4-cylinder DOHC i-VTEC engine that produces a maximum power output of 121 PS and a maximum torque of 145 Nm. It runs on a front-wheel drive system and a continuously variable transmission.
Performance-wise, its engine has higher power and torque compared to its competitors (i.e., Toyota Vios and Mitsubishi Mirage), making it more suitable for driving at high speeds on city roads and free-flowing highways. The Honda City is really a reliable daily city car because it has great fuel economy and its engine is really well-tuned to its continuously variable transmission.
-
Honda City Braking & Safety
The Honda City is equipped with the brand’s Sensing, a set of advanced driver assistance systems, This includes adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation braking system, lane keeping assist system, road departure mitigation, lane departure warning, auto high beam, and lead car departure notification. It is also equipped with standard safety and security features. However, only the RS and mid variants have reverse cameras.
In terms of braking, it utilizes a ventilated disc at the front and a drum at the rear. Its braking setup is protected by anti-lock braking and electronic brake-force distribution systems.
-
Honda City Verdict
The Honda City is a strong choice for anyone seeking a reliable, well-performing B-segment sedan without stressing over what others might think. It is functional, smooth-to-drive, and fuel-efficient.
