Pre-Owned Honda BR-V: Why Would You Want One?
When the rage of SUVs and MUVs in the Philippines car market was just about to begin, Honda was smart enough to pick the nerve of the oncoming wave of change, which led to the introduction of the BR-V.
Based on the Mobilio MPV, the Honda BR-V is essentially a rugged form of the former, with heavily revised styling all around and restyled interior cabin, while keeping the original silhouette and mechanicals under the skin almost intact. The Honda Mobilio also saw a slight tune-up the suspension setup as well as ground clearance (here it is higher) to incorporate further ruggedness to the vehicle.
Off late, the Honda Mobilio has started making its presence in the used car market of the Philippines, with some of the examples priced similarly to a compact sedan or premium hatchback, thus making it a great value for money proposition.
2nd hand Honda BR-V for sale: Pros & Cons
Given that the Honda BR-V is a subtle mix of an MPV as well as an SUV, it has its own set of compromises leading to a fair share of pros and cons, which are as follows:
Used Honda BR-V Pros
- All the three rows of seats have ample amount of space, with multiple and flexible seating configurations adding to its versatility
- The 1.5-litre petrol engine from the Honda City is an absolute gem in terms of refinement and performance
- Higher ground clearance over Mobilio adds to its practicality even more as an MUV
Used Honda BR-V Cons
- It is not as rugged over rough terrains as it looks, for it is still more of a cosmetically enhanced MPV rather than a proper SUV
- Cabin is not as premium and plush as its pricing suggests, could have had more modern equipment on board
Honda BR-V Overview
Based on the Honda Mobilio, the Honda BR-V is basically an SUV-looking version of the former, as it has the same silhouette and chassis as that of the former, but looks much better with its SUV-like appearance, thus giving it a more rugged and muscular stance.
The front as well as rear profiles of the Honda BR-V have been restyled heavily, thus making it look sleeker than Mobilio, while the body cladding all around makes it look more butch. Currently, the Honda BR-V is still in its first generation version, which was facelifted in the middle of its life cycle, and is currently available in the following variants:
All of these variants of the Honda BR-V come with a single engine and gearbox combination, which is the tried and tested 1.5-litre four cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine mated to a CVT gearbox. This powertrain combination has already proven its mettle in the hugely popular Honda City, and here it produces maximum power and torque outputs of 120 PS and 145 Nm respectively

Compared to Honda Mobilio, the Honda BR-V is in a lesser demand owing to its higher price, which is not much justifiable by the cosmetic advancements it possesses. However, in the used car market, the Honda BR-V is available at quite good prices, some of which are even priced lower than similarly-spec Mobilios. The list of used Honda BR-Vs, as per Carmudi, is as follows:
- Honda BR-V 2019 – PHP 780,000 onwards
- Honda BR-V 2018 – PHP 928,000 onwards
Along with the BR-V, Honda also sells Mobilio in the MPV segment, which has also found a good fan following with its similar practicality levels, but with subtler design language and lower ground clearance. Also, at carmudi.com, the other popular used Honda cars in sedans like Honda City, Honda Civic and Honda Accord, compact cars like Honda Brio and Honda Jazz and crossovers like Honda HR-V and Honda CR-V.
Used Honda BR-V Additional Advice
- The Honda BR-V is a more modern approach in the MUV segment with all of its SUV-like styling bits, such as body cladding, higher ground clearance, broader tires, sleeker front and rear look. All these traits make it one of the most modern compact MUVs in the used car market of the Philippines.
- If you are someone who values visual appeal and basic practicality of a seven seater vehicle in equal amounts, the Honda BR-V is one vehicle you should look for in the used car market.
