Pre-Owned MG 5: Why Would You Want One?
While the overall global car market, including that of the Philippines, is steadily seeing a constant shift towards SUVs and crossovers, there is still a considerable segment of car buyers who prefer the comfort and driving appeal of a sedan more over anything else. Having said that, there are a number of car makers, which are still relying on sedans in the compact car category, and MG too has one such offering in the form of MG 5 sedan.
Essentially a rebadged version of the Chinese Roewe i5, the Philippines-spec MG 5 is very different from the global version of MG 5 sold overseas. However, the MG 5 sold here is one of the most feature-rich and biggest sedans currently in its segment of compact sedan category. Given that it is a relatively new car in the Philippines, finding a well maintained used MG 5 can be a task. Though given its popularity, expect more used samples of MG 5 to hit in the used car market in future.
2nd Hand MG 5 for Sale: Pros & Cons
Used MG 5 Pros:
- Longest and widest car in its category, which makes its rear seat cabin the most spacious in its segment
- Packed with features, some of which were available only in higher segment cars till date
- Engine is smooth and refined across the entire rev range
Used MG 5 Cons:
- Power delivery and steering feedback is inconsistent across speeds
- Not many samples of MG 5 available in the used car market, considering that it is a very new model
MG 5 Overview
While many parts of the world have started receiving all new second generation MG 5 sedan, which looks much snazzier and futuristic than other sedans in its class, the Philippines car market continues to get a rebadged version of the Roewe i5 sedan in the form of MG 5.
The MG 5 currently serves as the most affordable model from the SAIC-owned British car maker here in Philippines, and has gained a good amount of popularity owing to its stellar value for money quotient. This compact sedan is the longest and widest car in its category, and along with segment best features like electric sunroof, 360-degree parking camera, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, LED headlamps, biggest-in-segment 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Carplay and six airbags, it proves its novelty quite well too.
The Philippines-spec MG 5 is available in a total of four different variants:
All the variants of the MG 5 sedan have got a 1.5-litre four cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine under their hood, which makes a maximum power output of 114 PS and a peak torque output of 150 Nm. A simple CVT gearbox is common to all the variants, while the base Core variant can also be had with an optional 5-speed manual gearbox.
The engine of the MG 5 sedan is quite refined and smooth across the entire rev range, making it an easy and stress free car to drive in all the driving environments. However, it is not as peppy in its power delivery as its number suggests, thanks to the lazy CVT gearbox.
Used MG 5 for sale on Carmudi
Given that the MG 5 is one of the latest models to arrive from MG in the Philippines car market, the used car market of the Philippines haven’t got many options of the MG 5 available.
The most popular model from MG, however, in the used car Philippine market, happens to be the globally popular MG ZS crossover. Apart from that, the list of MG used cars at Carmudi also has MG 6 sedan and the now defunct MG 3 hatchback, details of which can be found in the used car section of the Carmudi website.
Used MG 5 additional advice
- With segment best dimensions, cabin and boot space levels and list of premium equipment, the MG 5 sedan gives you the feel of owning a much bigger and elegant car at the price of a compact sedan.
- Owing to the fact that it is one of the late entrants in the Philippines new car market, finding a well maintained used MG 5 is a tedious task. Keep this space in check for the updated information.
