Pre-Owned Suzuki Jimny: Why Would You Want One?
Suzuki Jimny is pretty straightforward. You can tell by its rugged looks that it was meant for the outdoors. The two-door mini-SUV has a charmingly retro appearance with a touch of modernity. Much to the delight of its fans, the same concept can be seen and felt throughout the vehicle - from the moment you step inside until you finally hit the throttle.
The Jimny isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but it has ample features. It has enough room for passengers and cargo, as well as engine power for driving in cities and off-the-beaten roads. For all its macho bravado, it also has some tech and safety features.
It’s a good investment for jeepney enthusiasts who are willing to spend a little over Php 1 million. Filipinos who want more affordable options can buy a used Suzuki Jimny at Carmudi.

Suzuki Jimny Overview
Suzuki Jimny is a mini SUV that disguises itself as a classic box-type jeepney. It has an upright windshield, a flat bonnet, a rear-mounted spare tire, and a vertical-slated grille which is either flanked by halogen headlights or a pair of LED projector headlamps. Also noticeable are the wide black fenders and a lack of overhang, which are supposed to protect the Jimny from getting snagged or scratched. The 15-inch wheels seem narrow on a 4x4 but they have good traction.
As for the cabin, its front and side panels are heavy on plastics but their soft matte finish doesn’t make them look or feel cheap. It isn’t overly spacious but there’s more wiggle room for passengers than in older models. Seats are covered in cloth and have enough cushioning to keep everyone comfortable. The backdoor swings open to 85 liters of cargo space. You can increase it to 377 liters by folding the rear seats.
The dashboard gives off a retro vibe with its faux rivets, round air vents, and dual-analog gauges. What we really found impressive, however, is that Suzuki managed to include a multi-function steering wheel, a 9-inch infotainment system, and access to some of the vehicle’s more advanced features on the dashboard, without them looking out of place.
Powering the new Suzuki Jimny is a slightly larger 1.5L gas engine that churns out 101 hp and 130 Nm of torque. Depending on the variant, it can be mated to a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy has been improved with the new engine, which averages between 8.6 and 17.6 km/L.
It performs well on rough roads, as is expected of a 4x4 with an All Grip Pro System. Interestingly, its front wheel suspension bites more than the rear. This becomes evident when climbing hills that are too steep and the jeep stalls. Thankfully, it’s equipped with features such as hill assist, traction control, and stability control.
The Jimny can handle highway cruises although it makes too much noise at top speeds. Another problem is the heavy steering which makes it difficult to maneuver around tight spaces and causes oversteer on winding roads.
Safety-wise, the small SUV comes with dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD, brake assist, ISOFIX tethers, and immobilizers. Its body is reinforced with TECT technology to prevent injury to passengers and pedestrians during collisions.
