Pre-Owned Suzuki Swift: Why Would You Want One?
The Suzuki Swift is nothing like the subcompact hatchbacks currently sold in the Philippines. Taking queue from its globally successful predecessor, it continues to feature a unique European design but with a sporty twist.
Swift has more to show for than good looks, however. Newer models are fitted with the HEARTECT Platform which improves their performance, handling, fuel economy, and safety. The cabin is comfortable, and there’s enough space for a small family. You can also make room for additional cargo with its foldable rear seats.
A new Suzuki Swift isn’t the cheapest. But, if you don’t want to miss out on what is a perfect combination of style, function, and safety, you can buy a 2nd hand Suzuki Swift at Carmudi for under Php 500,000.
2nd Hand Suzuki Swift for Sale: Pros and Cons

Used Suzuki Swift Pros
- Stunning Euro-inspired exterior
- Expandable cargo space
- Has basic power features
- Great handling and performance
- CVT variant with Sports Mode
- Excellent fuel economy
- All-around safety for everyone
Used Suzuki Swift Cons

Suzuki Swift Overview
Suzuki Swift is a 5-door hatchback with a MINI Cooper like appearance. Its latest models are longer and wider but are still compact in size. The Japanese automaker also gave it an aggressive stance with the addition of a massive grille, sharp headlights, and angular corners. Beyond aesthetics, the chassis was upgraded to a tougher but lighter HEARTECT Platform.
As for the cabin, it can feel underwhelming at first glance. The dashboard and side doors are laden in glossy black plastic which easily scratch. Seats are covered in black fabric and while that could have created a seamless dark-themed interior, the white accents on the front panel ruin it entirely.
Thankfully, the hatch is well-equipped. It comes with a multi-function steering wheel, manual air conditioning, an 8-inch multimedia display, and several power features. Controls and storage compartments are also thoughtfully laid out for easy accessibility.
There isn’t much space inside the Suzuki Swift but it offers decent headroom, legroom, and elbow room as well comfortable seating. At the back, you’ll find a 242-litre cargo space which can be expanded to 556 liters if you fold the rear seats.
The new Swift runs on a 1.2L gas engine and is either mated to a manual or continuous variable transmission. It has a maximum power output of 82 hp and a peak torque of 113 Nm. Despite its name, it can take time to accelerate. Once it reaches a certain speed, it’ll have enough power to switch lanes and overtake slow-moving vehicles.
Suzuki responsibly pairs the Swift’s performance with safety. The most notable is a built-in impact-absorbing frame. In case of a collision, it can prevent and reduce injury to the driver, passengers, and pedestrians. Other safety features include ABS with EBD, driver brake assist, 3-pt ELR seatbelts, dual SRS airbags, ISOFIX, and child seat tethers.
Like most hatchbacks, it handles sharp curbs and tight corners well, but not bumps and potholes. In spite of an improved NVH insulation, you can hear the suspension struggling when driving across challenging roads. Fuel efficiency is where Suzuki Swift truly shines. It registers 14.8 kmpl when driving 60 kmph in the city, and 11.5 kmpl whenever there’s traffic. On highways, fuel consumption goes up to 21.5 km/l at 90 kmph.
